Lisbon to Aarhus - At Sea

Apr 17 - May 10

Tall ship This is a Tall Ship we saw off the coast of Norway

German Type 206
Here are a few photos of the submarines we worked with during our Exercise Blue Game, which took place in the Skatterak, Kattegat. Three of the photos are of a Norwegian Uredd, and below left is a picture of a German Type 206. The 206 surfaced about a mile from our ship, which caused some commotion, as they were playing on the "other" side. As it turned out, we exchanged ice cream, fresh fruit, and milk for some German libations. They only had 2 cubic metres of fresh water on board, for 29 men for a three week deployment. They were quite appreciative of the trade

I'm the king of the castle, and you're the dirty rascal!!! Blade Change
On our trip back from Mildon Hall England, a piece of one of the rotor blades tore. It's not a serious problem, actually we didn't even notice it had happened, until one of the technicians pointed it out after we stopped the rotors on the flight deck after the trip. Nevertheless, it called for a blade change. Coincidentally, this blade change took place exactly one year to the day after our blade change on NATO 2000!

Barry and Jason in for the Live Torp Load
Live Torp
Last Thursday we did a Live Torpedo Load. We can do either a practice run with a dummy round, but this time, we loaded a live warshot onto the helo. It's good practice for the techs because there are a few things they can't do with the dummy round. Here are a few photos taken by our new token and self designated photo technician - Pat Usherwood

And the Cradles will rock... The boys test out the assembly of the helicopter landing cradles. If we discover we have a landing gear problem and there aren't any alternative landing sites, then the techs will assemble the cradles, and we will land in them instead of landing on the landing gear
These are a couple of pictures from the Battle of the Atlantic Ceremony, and a burial at sea, both of which took place in the North Sea Burial at Sea

Mine
This is the mine detonation demonstration that was given to us off the coast of Denmark. It was a fairly small mine, and we were 1/2 a mile away, but it still send vibrations throughout the ship!

This is the Brig... where we keep all our bad sailors... You can see the Master Seaman anxiously awaiting his next meal of fishead soup and stale bread!

Ok, ok you got me, this isn't the brig... it's actually the helicopter refuelling compartment on the flight deck. When we land on, the techs pull the refueling hose out from the compartment, and they can fuel the helo. Below is a night refuelling. We are also capable of refueling in flight
